Now some questions!
Welcome, welcome, Lily! Let’s begin with: what’s the meaning of life?
This question assumes that life has a meaning, but what if it doesn’t? What if life is just something that happens and we have to try and make our own meaning from it? So the question should really be “How do you make meaning out of life?” To that I would answer, by living every day as if it were my last and filling it with people and things to do that I love. That would include being sure I have time to write and read. But I also love to cook healthy and tasty meals and enjoying an aperitif with my husband before eating, a time when we have rich conversations. I aim to include something enriching in as many days as possible, such as museum visits, concerts, plays, poetry readings, etc. The more I can include some aspect of the humanities in my life, the happier I am.
That is a beautiful take on that question! What would you want to be written on your tombstone?
She gave her all for art!
Yes, I like that one! What’s your favorite word?
Enantiodromia, which means the tendency of things to change into their opposites. I like saying the word, the musicality of the syllables, but I particularly like its meaning, the idea that what we may reject is actually a part of us, a good argument for embracing all of life, the positive and the negative.
Oo, a new word! What superpower would you like to have for a day?
I would love to fly in actual life the way I do sometimes in dreams. It’s such a glorious free feeling to propel myself in the air!
I have to agree; flying is marvelous! Cook in or eat out?
I find cooking a meditative time and enjoy fixing tasty and healthy meals for myself and my husband. When we’re traveling, we always rent an Airbnb or VRBO so we don’t have to eat out constantly. I like the occasional meal out, but I soon get bored with restaurants.
Cooking is good for the soul! Do you know what your name means? Or who were you named after?
Lily was my mother’s name. She chose Iona for my middle name because one of her brothers was dating a girl named Iona who also had brown eyes. I feel “Lily” signifies the personality I use to interact with the outer world while Iona represents my interior, more inward self. Hence, I like to use both.
A beautiful name it is! Finally, what is the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
Reading has always been my before-sleep ritual, so I usually spend at least an hour doing it before I actually fall asleep. I read newspapers during the day when I ride my stationary bike and poetry, novels, or non-fiction works at night.
Another activity that is good for the soul! Thank you, Lily, for answering my many wonderings! Support Lily by clicking the links above! We’ll be here again next Friday, cooking and answering more important questions by another artist!
Happy reading! 🙂

Lovely interview! It’s going to take a little practice to remember “Enantiodromia!” Thank you both.
